New York, NY – August 8, 2018 – Flight Centre Travel Group’s (FCTG) corporate brands have partnered with Lumo (formerly flightsayer), a flight delay prediction service, to deliver airline delay and disruption predictions to clients across its brands, which include FCM Travel Solutions, Stage and Screen, cievents and Corporate Traveler.
Lumo, which is a blending of the words illuminate and mobility, uses machine learning to predicts flight delays weeks, days and hours ahead of scheduled departure, empowering travelers – and those booking on their behalf – to make better itinerary choices and proactively manage potential disruptions. The estimates on the impact of flight disruptions are as high as $30 billion in the USA alone, with a global impact stated to be at least $60 billion.
“At the core of what we do is getting business travelers where they need to be, when they need to be there,” said Charlene Leiss, president of FCTG’s corporate brands. “The ‘when’ is critical in the corporate travel world as these trips are planned around meetings, events and must-attend conferences. Partnering with Lumo provides the teams with an important tool to help minimize, or ultimately avoid, flight disruptions. Getting our customers there on time is one of the most important roles we play in their travel plans.”
Clients have a choice on how best to configure the Lumo integration, depending on what suits their company’s needs and travel program. It can be done through email, mid-office integration or a dashboard. Lumo simply has to receive the flight information on the traveler; it is literally as easy as that. The corporate brands of FCTG will determine the best approach for each client to incorporate and maximize the benefits of the Lumo partnership. The partnership allows both Lumo and FCTG to seamlessly share data and information directly with the ultimate goal of saving time and money for clients. Customers of FCTG will sign a contract directly with Lumo (fees apply).
“Lumo is excited to officially kick-off our partnership with Flight Centre Travel Group,” said Bala Chandran, Lumo co-Founder and CEO. “The corporate brands of FCTG have a global reach and an openness to working with cutting-edge technology. We are both interested in providing business travelers unique visibility into the future and empowering them to make their own trade-offs regarding flight delay risks and take proactive action in avoiding disruptions.”
The ultimate goal in FCTG corporate brands tapping into Lumo’s intelligence is to assess the risk of delay before it happens and take a proactive, versus a reactive, approach. Lumo’s delay prediction algorithms help all parties involved, from passengers to travel management companies, airlines to airports, proactively plan for delays. Lumo scores each flight on a one to 10 risk index scale that takes many factors into account, including recent history, seasonal impacts, changing schedules, patterns by time of day and more. Travelers can be alerted days before in some cases if their flight is at risk of delay and be offered alternative options.
